PST stands for Personal Storage Table. It is an open file format used to store replicas of messages, calendar events, and other data for Microsoft products such as Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Exchange Server etc.

There are two types of PST file

• ASCI PST: ANSI stands for American National Standards Institute. It is a legacy PST file format used by Microsoft in MS Outlook 2002 and all below version. ANSI PST has 2GB of storage capacity. An ANSI PST that goes over 2 GB in size is vulnerable to corruption.
• Unicode PST: It is an advance format of PST. Unicode PST is available in Outlook 2003 and all above version of Outlook. It has storage capacity of 20 GB in MS Outlook 2003 & MS Outlook 2007 and 50 GB in MS Outlook 2010, 2013 & 2016. However, the technical limit lies at 4194304GB, which is 4096TB or 4PB and the default limit is adjustable.
